Four. How Many More?

Four. That's how many women have now come forward accusing the leader of the neo-communist Self-Defense party, Andrzej Lepper, of pressuring them to have sex with him. According to Gazeta Wyborcza, the latest witness is hard to dismiss. She's a wife of a prominent member of the party who advised Lepper on relations with Ukraine. Heck, he even got Lepper a doctorate from a Ukrainian university, along with one for himself.

"Lepper explained that I'm a big girl and that I shouldn't be surprised. I declined," Anna Podgorska was quoted as telling the prosecutors. This was after Lepper told her that this would help her husband's career. He pressured her another time.

So now it's four. And the question becomes, how many women have to come forward before the Kaczynski twins and PiS, or the "Law and Justice" party, do some justice and kick out Lepper, along with the rest of his crooked party, from the government?

lepper got the all clear with his DNA test. So that woman must be a seriously confused person...

Are samoobrona a seedy bunch of smegheads? Well, of course! Do we care? Not really....

the personal behaviour of politicians bores me to death, to be honest.

Whoa, do we care? Of course we do. For several reasons. First, these are the people running the country, dispensing and hoarding cash, etc. So it's sad to hear that you don't care much about this. Maybe that approach is one of the reasons these "smegeheads" are at the trough (forgive the literal translation) and in power.

Second, the view that this is only about personal behavior of politicians again misses the big picture. No, this is not only about personal behavior. It's about sexual harassment, sexual favors for jobs, treating women as objects to use and abuse, threatening witnesses, obstruction of justice...

I hope that doesn't bore you to death.

Oh yes, and as for the DNA test. The point the post was to show that there are four women accusing lepper of various forms of sexual harassment/pressure. You think all these women are "mentally ill" (as lepper, always the poet, called his accuser krawczyk).

I take the point about sexual harassment – that’s what smegheads do…

But I think the focus on politicians’ personal behaviour has intensified over the last twenty years.

In the UK, this really began with newspapers like the Guardian attacking the Conservative government (post Thatcher and Thatcherism) and after the Cold war. Ideological politics seemed, and seems, exhausted – there wasn’t really any profound differences between the parties…

So the attack against the Tory government from the Guardian etc couldn’t be about political ideas because there was none. So the focus gradually came to focus more and more on personal behaviour of politicians…not what ideas they had, or their policies.

Think about the attacks on Clinton and Lewinsky – nothing political about those attacks at all…it was about cigars, behaviour…

So I would rather we got back to trying to debate ideas and not personal behaviour. Maybe put politics back into Politics.
